The Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series title run is in jeopardy. The Dodgers have lost three straight games to the top-seeded Atlanta Braves.

The Dodgers dropped a 2-4 series against the 2023 World Series champion Atlanta at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday.

After dropping the first three games of a four-game home series against Atlanta, the first-place Dodgers in the National League West fell to 83-52. With a six-game winning streak, NL East-leading Atlanta improved to 90 wins (45 losses) on the season and boasted the best winning percentage in the majors (.667). Atlanta struck first. In the top of the third inning, Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a three-ball off Dodgers starter Emmitt Scherzer. He took a 94.5 mph four-seam fastball outside the zone and capped it off with a line drive solo shot over the center field fence like a bullet. His 32nd home run of the season.

It was measured at 121.2 mph (195.1 km/h) with a distance of 454 feet (138.4 meters) and a launch angle of 19 degrees. The velocity was the highest for a home run this season and the third-fastest home run since Statcast was introduced in 2015. It was the first of three consecutive home runs against the Dodgers since April 1.

The Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the next inning. After Austin Barnes led off with a double off Atlanta starter Bryce Elder, back-to-back singles by Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman loaded the bases. Will Smith’s infield single brought Barnes home from third to tie the game at 1-1.

It was a back-and-forth pitching battle until the ninth inning. Shelby Miller (1 inning), Ryan Brauer (1 inning), Bruce DeGraterol (1 inning), and Evan Phillips (1⅔ innings) pitched scoreless innings for the Dodgers before Alex Vecchia got the final out in the 10th.

He got two outs in a bases-loaded jam, but gave up a walk to Sean Murphy to put runners on first and second with one out. Atlanta’s Orlando Arcia took a high four-seam fastball right down the middle of the plate from Beccia and crushed it over the left-center field wall. It was his 17th home run of the season and the final three-run blast.

Atlanta shut down the Dodger bats after Elder pitched six innings of one-run ball, with Joe Jimenez, A.J. Minter and Michael Tonkin each tossing one scoreless inning. Raisel Iglesias, who came on in the 10th, gave up a run but preserved the lead to earn his 28th save of the season. Tonkin, who pitched a scoreless ninth, improved to 6-2 on the season.
