‘Everyone on the team scored’ as ruthless U.S. beats ‘freak’ free Greece by 22 points…fourth straight win in exhibition games

USA had no mercy.

Head coach Steve Kerr’s USA cruised to a 108-86, 22-point victory over Greece in a tune-up game for the FIBA FIBA World Cup Philippines-Japan-Indonesia 2023 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Monday (Sept. 19).안전놀이터

Anthony Edwards paced the Americans with 21 points and four rebounds, while Cameron Johnson added 13 points, two rebounds and four assists. Austin Reeves and Jaren Jackson Jr. added 11 points apiece. Mychal Bridges and Bobby Portis added 10 points apiece. The entire team scored in double figures. Jaylen Brunson helped run the show with nine points, three rebounds, and seven assists.

Without Yannis Adetokunbo, the “Freak,” Greece had to feel the heat from the United States as they gave up 100 points for the first time.

The United States and Greece are in Group C at the Basketball World Cup, along with Jordan and New Zealand. It was an exhibition game before the main event, but the difference between the two teams was huge.

The game ended in a sweep for the US, but the self-evaluation afterward was harsh. “My concern is mistakes and rebounding,” Kerr told the local media. We’re playing a style of basketball where we have a lot of possessions and we’re forcing them into a lot of mistakes. We’re just not playing our game and I’ve talked to the players about that. It’s not a secret. It’s something we look at.”

The U.S. committed 20 miscues on the night. It’s a jade tee overshadowed by the big win. But they forced Greece into 17 miscues and made a whopping 11 3-pointers, which has been a problem for them. They added 11 offensive rebounds and won the height battle 43-28.

“I think we’re doing pretty well,” said Edwards, who is the leading scorer for the Americans.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is on a perfect path to reclaiming its World Cup crown, with wins over Puerto Rico, Slovenia, Spain, and Greece. Despite being the weakest team in history, the USA has improved in many ways from four years ago, such as adapting to FIBA rules and organizing.

Greece won both of their exhibition games against Slovenia before losing to Serbia, Italy, and the United States in consecutive games, leaving their World Cup prospects in doubt. The absence of Adetokunbo is still a problem.
