Surprise ‘Big Leaguer’ Joins LG Camp… Choi Ji-man, Training with LG Players

A big leaguer appeared at the LG Spring Camp in Scottsdale, Arizona, on the 5th (Korea time).

Choi Ji-man, a free agent in the Major League, came to train together at the LG camp. Choi, who is a free agent, had been doing individual training sessions and asked his team to train together at the camp, and the team gave permission for him to do so. “Choi has asked for training sessions at the camp, and we decided to join them as we thought it would be helpful including training methods for major leaguers,” an LG source said.

Choi greeted LG’s coaching staff including head coach Yeom Kyung-yeop and started training. After finishing his warm-up training, Choi prepared for batting training by talking with Kim Hyun-soo, Park Hae-min and Hong Chang-ki in Group A with veteran players. Oh Ji-hwan, Austin, Park Dong-won and Huh Do-hwan, who completed their defensive training, joined and batted together.

Having entered the U.S. after signing a contract with the Seattle Mariners in 2009, Choi made his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Angels in 2016. He was traded to the New York Yankees in 2017, the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018, and the Tampa Bay Rays. He became the first Korean batter to play for Tampa Bay in 2020.

Having recorded more than 10 homers for three consecutive years between 2019 and 2021, Choi was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates after the 2022 season. He suffered from a series of injuries last year. He was listed as injured for about three months due to a sprained Achilles tendon, and was traded to the San Diego Padres in August. He also suffered many minor injuries after the move. Due to the aftermath of his injury, Choi was sluggish with a batting average of 1663 (17 hits in 104 times at bat) with six homers and 13 RBIs in 39 games last year, an OPS of .624. 토토사이트

Choi, who became a free agent after the end of the season, has yet to sign a contract with a new team. Waiting for news of his contract, he starts his physical training at the LG camp ahead of the Major League Baseball’s spring training.

Big players in the Major League FA market also remain unsigned, so it will take some time for Choi Ji-man’s future to be decided. It is known that Choi Ji-man has long-range power and quality first base defense, and is continuing negotiations with three to four American League clubs.
